AMMAN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Saturday urged immediate halt of unilateral Israeli measures in the occupied Palestinian territories and east Jerusalem, stressing that such measures undermine peacemaking efforts.

    "Jordan rejects all Israeli measures that threaten the holy sites in east Jerusalem that always receives continued Hashemite support," Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said at a press conference Saturday following a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

    Judeh also warned against the consequences of the continued unilateral Israeli measures in the occupied Palestinian territories and east Jerusalem such as the demolishing of houses, expelling Palestinians and proceeding with settlement activities.

    According to the state run Petra News Agency, talks between Judeh and his Norwegian counterpart focused on efforts to push the peace process forward based on the two-state solution and the ArabPeace Initiative, which offers Israel normal ties with the Arab world in return for withdrawal from territories it occupied in 1967.

    The Norwegian minister emphasized that the next few months will be "vital and important" for the resumption of peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, stressing his country's support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
