KABUL, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A soldier of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in the militancy-hit Afghanistan on Saturday, a press release of the alliance said.

"An ISAF service member was killed today in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) strike in southern Afghanistan," the press release said.

However, it did not disclose the exact place of the incident.

January has proved deadly to the NATO-led troops in Afghanistan, which have lost around two dozen service members in the militancy-plagued land so far this month.
