BERLIN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A German mobile hospital with several volunteers and a doctor was on its way to quake-hit Haiti, the German Red Cross (DRK) said Saturday.

The mobile hospital, with 200 crates of medical supplies and three all-wheel-drive vehicles, can treat up to 250 people a day.

DRK spokesman Svenja Koch said it had its own electricity generator, a dispensary with medications, a kitchen, water tanks and toilets.

The mobile hospital could be put into operation within a day if a suitable location was found, Koch said.

On Wednesday, the German government pledged to provide emergency aid worth 1.5 million euros (2.1 million U.S. dollars), comprising 1 million euros (1.4 million dollars) in financial aid and 500,000 euros (718, 000 dollars) of food, to Haiti.

Many hospitals in the Haitian capital city Port-au-Prince collapsed in the 7.3-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.
