BERLIN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- On Friday Bundesliga record champion Bayern Munich defeated Hoffenheim 2-0 in front of home crowd at full house Allianz Arena and moved from 3rd to 1st position of Bundesliga while Hoffenheim remained on 7th position.
Record champion Munich needed some time to get into the match. It took 34 minutes until Bayern opened the scoring. Defender Martin Demichelis slotted home from close range inside the box, German international midfielder Sebastian Schweinsteiger assited with a cross from the left wing.
After interval Bayern took over control and pressed Hoffenheim into defense. With 57 minutes played Bayern striker, and German international Mario Gomez missed the opportunity to double the lead. Only two minutes later again Gomez wasted the chance to double the lead with a weak shot from 16 meters.
Hoffenheim had the opportunity to level the score at the 72nd minute. Hoffenheim striker Maicosuel sent a free kick into penalty area where striker Demba Ba missed the ball unchallenged.
Bayern striker Mirsolav Klose, who replaced striker Ivica Olic at the 63rd minute, scored the winner only four minutes before final whistle to mark his first Bundesliga goal this season.
Record champion Bayern Munich extended their winning streak to 7 matches, while Hoffenheim extended their losing steak to 5.
