Afghan parliament approves minister for foreign affairs

    KABUL, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of parliament on Saturday endorsed the nomination of Zalmai Rasoul for the post of foreign minister in the new cabinet, speaker of the house Mohammad Yunus Qanooni said.

    Rasoul, a former adviser to President Hamid Karzai on national security affairs, secured 132 voters out of 224 lawmakers present in Saturday's secret balloting, according to the speaker.
