NEW DELHI, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Fog claimed the lives of three persons and
injured at least 14 others in yet another rail mishap in the northern Indian
state of Uttar Pradesh Saturday, a senior Indian Railways official said.
"Three persons were killed and the number of injuries is known to be 14 all
of whom have been admitted to a local hospital. The rail mishap took place when
the Kalindi Express collided with the Shram Shakti Express near the Tundla
junction in the state due to dense fog which had reduced visibility levels,"
North-Central Railway spokesperson R.D. Vajpai told the media in the national
capital.
The official said that a medical team has been rushed to the spot to help
in the rescue operations, he said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the
mishap.
Three similar rail mishaps took place in the state earlier this month, in
which at least 10 people were killed and 45 were injured, due to dense fog which
significantly reduced the visibility conditions.
Fog is very common in northern India particularly during the winter months
of December and January.
