High level Haitian gov't officials hospitalized in Dominica

    SANTO DOMINGO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Several high level officials of the Haitian government were hospitalized at hospitals in Santo Domingo, capital of Dominica, after being injured in the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that shook Haiti on Tuesday, local press reported on Friday.

    Haitian Minister of Public Works Joseph Frentz is receiving intensive care in the General Palza de la Salud Hospital of Santo Domingo after his hips and left fibula were broken, as well as fo rcrisis of hyper tension.

    Meanwhile, Haitian President of the Senate Kelly Bestien was hospitalized at Metropolitano de Santiago Hospital also in Santo Domingo, after being injured when the building of the Congress collapsed.

    Bestien who already had a surgery in his right leg said that thanks to the solidarity of the Dominican government and businessmen he is alive.

    The devastating quake on Tuesday destroyed nearly 70 percent of the buildings in Port-au-Prince, the Caribbean country's capital city. The presidential palace, ministries' offices, hospitals and schools were all affected.
