Moderate earthquake jolts Indonesia's West Sumatra

    JAKARTA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit west coast of West Sumatra province at 1:34 pm local time (6:34GMT) on Friday, Antara news agency reported.

    The epicenter was located at 0.706 degrees southern latitude and 99.76 degrees eastern longitude, around 70 km from the provincial capital of Padang, according to the Padang Panjang meteorological, climatology and geophysics office.

    A 7.6-magnitude quake that struck Sumatra Island on September 30 last year killed more than 1,000 people.
