KATHMANDU, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A documentary based on ex-Maoist woman's journey from a jail-breaker to parliamentarian has been short-listed for the 2010 Oscar Academy Award nominations, local newspaper reported Friday
The film "Woman Rebel" tells a story of Uma Bhujel, a former Maoist guerrilla, who joins the Maoists' People's Liberation Army at the age of 18.
The 40-minute documentary opens with her monologue "I feel I have risen up", in which she says she feels happiest when she is in uniform.
It is made by 26-year old director Kiran Deol from the United States.
"I believe Kiran's documentary reflects the courage and dedication of a Nepali women," The Himalayan Times cited Uma Bhujel as saying.
Uma Bhujel now is a member of the Constituent Assembly.
