DHAKA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh will send a medical team to Haiti to help its earthquake-stricken people, a senior official said Thursday.

"The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, asked the health ministry to send a medical team to Haitian capital Port-au-Prince with adequate doctors, medicines and clothes," prime minister's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters.

He said the cabinet meeting also issued a condolence message to the Haiti government, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and properties in the Wednesday's earthquake.

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake, the most powerful to hit the Caribbean nation in more than a century, was estimated to have killed tens of thousands of people and caused massive destruction.
