BANGKOK, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Thai government is confident of controlling a series of anti-government rallies, planned by the red-shirted United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday.
Among the planned series of the rallies, the UDD protesters will gather on Feb. 26 as the Supreme Court is due to give its verdict on ousted former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra's 76.6 billion baht (2.33 billion U.S. dollars) assets seizure case, Thai News Agency reported.
The red-shirted people have rights to protest but they must abide by security laws and they can not create any violence, the Thai prime minister said.
On Feb. 26, the government will guarantee that the country's justice system will be able to smoothly work, while the Thai people, who work in the justice system, will be ensured of security, Abhisit said.
"It is the government's responsibility to ensure peace and security, but I will not evaluate how the day (Feb. 26) will be like since it might cause conflict," Abhisit said.
