China says its Web open, welcomes int'l companies

    BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Internet is open and welcomes international companies, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday, just two days after Google issued a statement saying it might quit China.

China to protect legitimate rights of engineers charged by India

    BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry Thursday pledged to ensure the rights of three Chinese engineers arrested and charged with culpable homicide on Monday by Indian police would be protected.

    The engineers, employed by the Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO), were charged with homicide in connection with a chimney collapse that killed more than 40 people at an Indian power plant in September, 2009. Full story

Chinese state councilor to visit Indonesia, Brunei

    BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo will pay an official visit to Indonesia and Brunei from Jan. 21 to 26, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Thursday.

    Dai is visiting at the invitation of Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto and the Brunei government, Jiang said at a regular press conference.  Full story

Liberian FM to visit China

    BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chief Minister of Cabinet Olubanke King Akerele is to pay an official visit to China from Jan. 20-25 at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

    Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu made the announcement at a regular press briefing here Thursday.  Full story
