ANKARA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Turkey expressed sorrow over the earthquake which hit Haiti Tuesday, an official statement said on Thursday.

The statement issued by the Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu conveyed the deep sorrow and condolences of Turkish people to Haitian people.

The statement also said that it is a consolation that the 52 Turkish policemen assigned in United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) are reported to be in good condition.

Turkey is ready to provide every kind of support to Haiti, added the statement.

Up to 100,000 people might have died in 7.3-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday afternoon, said Mauricio Bustamante, operation coordinator of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies based in Panama City.
