LONDON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool on Wednesday completed the signing of Argentine forward Maxi Rodriguez from Atletico Madrid on a three-and-half-year contract, a recent move that the Premier League hope will rescue their faltering season.

Rodriguez, 29, will link up with his former Atletico team mate Fernando Torres in the Liverpool attack. He also joins fellow Argentine international Javier Mascherano.

"We were looking for players with character and a good mentality," Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told the club's website. "He has played for Argentina and Atletico Madrid and is a player with personality."

Atletico, who finished fourth in the league last year, have been active in the transfer window after a poor start to the season that has seen them crash out of the Champions League and struggling in the league.
