CANBERRA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- A survey released on Thursday revealed that 90 percent of Australians want to see more indigenous culture included in Australia Day celebrations.
The Australia Day Council's Warren Pearson said the result reflected Australia's growing and changing diversity.
"I guess the survey results reflect our diversity as a nation, the changing face of Australia Day and Australia is no longer just a barbecue," he said.
Pearson suggested the rest of Australia should look at how the Northern Territory celebrates Australia Day as an example of how to incorporate aboriginal culture.
"It's quite sensational as a model for the rest of the nation," he said.
"There are lots of little aboriginal communities that are involved as well as the big celebrations in the big cities ¨C Alice Springs, Palmerston does very well, obviously in Darwin."
