UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 UN personnel were killed and 56 others injured in an earthquake that struck Haiti's capital of Port au Prince on Tuesday, a senior UN official said Wednesday.

"So far, we can confirm 14 fatalities ... 56 injured," Helen Clark, head of the UN Development Program (UNDP), told reporters at UN Headquarters.

As this is only a preliminary figure, more casualties are expected, she said, adding that seven people have been evacuated for medical treatment.

The UN has said that about 150 of its employees working there are still trapped in collapsed buildings and remain unaccounted for.
