WARSAW, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Polish oil and gas corporation PGNiG will continue ongoing gas supply talks with Russia's gas operator Gazprom Export, the company said here Wednesday.

PGNiG and Gazprom sat down in Moscow on Tuesday to a further round of gas talks launched several months ago. Poland wants to negotiate extra gas supplies from Russia after last year's stoppage of a 2.3 billion cubic meter contingent from the Russian-Ukrainian corporation RosUkr Energo.

In a statement Wednesday, PGNiG said that both sides were "seeking acceptable solutions."

Russia and Poland sealed an accord on the extra gas supplies last December, still pending is a corresponding contract between PGNiG and Gazprom.

The main stumbling block preventing a speedy agreement is the question of transit fees for Russian gas exported via Poland to western Europe, mainly Germany, experts told the Polish news agency PAP.

Former economy minister Janusz Steinhoff explained that the Russians want to maintain low transit fees. The Poles object, arguing that Poland takes in just 4 billion cubic meters of gas annually from the Yamal pipeline while supplies reaching Germany amount to 28 billion cubic meters.

There is also a disputed issue of back payments for the transitof gas, Steinhoff added.

Poland corporate association Business Center Club urged for the prompt completion of the talks as delays in gas supplies could endanger Polish industry.

PGNiG assured that all its customers were receiving contracted gas supplies and no supply cuts were planned.
