RAMALLAH, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) will not yield to international pressure to resume peace talks with Israel, an official said Wednesday.
"The pressure on us to go back to the negotiations will not succeed," said Nabil Shaath, a member of Fatah party's Central Committee.
"Our position is clear: we won't go to new negotiations with Israel unless it stops the settlement completely and without a clear international reference," Shaath told reporters.
For the PNA, the building of the Jewish settlements are the biggest obstacle since the construction is being done in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the two territories that would make most of the future Palestinian state.
"Negotiations under the current Israeli and U.S. position benefit only the Israeli government and provides cover to the settlements and the Jewish procedures in Jerusalem," Shaath added.
Shaath's remarks as U.S. envoys are scheduled to visit the region in a bid to revive the stalled peace talks.
