UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is set to brief journalists on the latest situation in Haiti, where a devastating earthquake has caused extensive damages, Ban's press offices said Wednesday.

The world body on Tuesday night confirmed that the Headquarters of the U.N. Mission in Haiti was seriously damaged along with other U.N. installations and "a large number of personnel remain unaccounted for" after a strong earthquake jolted the small island country.

"The United Nations can confirm that the Headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) in Port au Prince has sustained serious damage along with other U.N. installations," said U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy in a statement.
