BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- China called on the United States to abide by the spirit and principles established by the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and handle Taiwan issues in a prudent and appropriate manner.

    Yang Yi, spokesman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks Wednesday when asked to comment on Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou's Honduras tour with a scheduled stopover in the United States.

    On Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular press briefing that China opposed the United States havingany official exchanges and contacts with Taiwan and this position remained clear and consistent.

China reaffirms opposition to arms sales to Taiwan

    BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland official Wednesday reaffirmed the mainland's firm opposition to arms sales to Taiwan by any country and called on Taiwan to cherish hard-won peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

    BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Defense Department announced on January 6 the approval of a plan of Lockheed Martin Corp. to sell Patriot III missiles to Taiwan. Although it was a step to implement the huge-scale arms sales package announced by the George W. Bush administration in October 2008, such a move only about one month after U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to China tarnished the China-U.S. ties.

    BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday again expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and withdraw related arms sales plan.

    BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's Defense Ministry on Friday expressed strong indignation and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and immediately withdraw related arms sales items.
