JAKARTA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's West Papua province should use special autonomy status wisely to build the region, representatives of the region said on Tuesday.

Jimmy Daminanus Ijie, vice deputy of Local House of Representatives, said that the province's elites need to change their mentality, which were vindictive and often forgetting who they are.

"The issue of separatism never sleeps for years as the local elites do not change their mentality to build their own region," Ijie told the press in the parliamentary building.

Yorris Raweyai, a member of parliament, said that the separatism issue in the region never sleeps during 45 years.

"The government should find a correct formula to handle the issue," said Raweyai.
