SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea's largest electronics manufacturer, said Tuesday its air conditioner unit is targeting 3 trillion won (2.67 billion U.S. dollars) in sales revenue this year, a 50 percent growth from last year, by focusing on the overseas market.

"Samsung has not been active in the air-conditioner business so far, but we will put heavier focus on it with the goal of reaching a global leader status within two to three years," Moon Gang-ho, head of Samsung's air conditioner unit, said in a press conference.

Samsung plans to sell 5.5 million units overall this year and expects to accrue two thirds of the sales revenue from overseas markets, Moon added.

The company's emphasis on foreign markets is reflected by its recent opening of two manufacturing plants in India, Moon said, adding it plans to expand to areas like Brazil and Indonesia soon.
