Man United announce annual profit of 48.2 mln pounds

    LONDON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- English Premier League reigning champion Manchester United made a profit before tax of 48.2 million pounds in the financial year ended June 30, 2009, revealed the club on web site Monday.

    According to the summary published by Red Football Ltd - the holding company of Manchester United Ltd, the Group turnover for the year was 278.5 million pounds, seeing a rise of 22.3 million pounds.

    The profit before tax for the year was 48.2 million pounds while the figure a year earlier was a loss of 21.4 million pounds.

    During the year, Old Trafford staged 34 major events, including19 Premier League home games and six UEFA Champions League matches.

    Besides, Manchester United secured a new shirt sponsorship deal during the year with Aon who will become the new principal shirt sponsor and will succeed AIG from the commencement of the 2010-2011 season. Manchester United also welcome back Audi as their car partner.

    The Red Devils won the Premier League title for the third consecutive season in 2008-2009 and took victory in the League Cup. They were also crowned World Club Champions for the first time in December, 2008.
