DETROIT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- German carmaker Volkswagen AG unveiled Monday at North America International Auto Show (NAIAS) its New Compact Coupe, a two-door, four-seat sporty hybrid concept car that can reach 141 mph.

The sports car can sprint to 60 mph from zero in 8.1 seconds, and return 45 miles per gallon.

The hybrid car is expected to become part of the next lineup of Jetta models, competing with the Honda Civic and Mazda3, and help Volkswagen grow sales and volume in the U.S. market. Volkswagen currently markets just a Jetta wagon and sedan in the United States.

Volkswagen also announced it will launch its first hybrid model in the first half of this year - an SUV with full-time all-wheel drive.

The Volkswagen Group, including Audi, Lamborghini, and Bentley, sold just under 300,000 vehicles in the U.S. last year.
