MADRID, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid's Director of Football Jorge Valdano said his side should have beaten Mallorca by more than two goals on Sunday night.
Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Esteban Granero gave Real Madrida comfortable win against the team fourth in the table, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka missed easy chances to have made the score line more convincing on a snowy night in the Spanish capital.
"It was a difficult night in terms of the weather, but the win could have been by a bigger margin," said Valdano.
"We showed a good attitude with the play and by creating chances. We deserved to score more and once again in defense we were impeccable," he told the Monday edition of sports paper Diario AS.
"We didn't score a third goal to kill off the game and Mallorcais a side that can hurt you on the break and complicate things a lot for you," explained Valdano.
Valdano added he was pleased to see Madrid keep a clean sheet, despite being without Pepe, who will miss the season with a knee injury.
"We are in the post-Pepe era and that means it is more important than ever to keep a clean sheet. This team has to get to know itself and we are on the way to doing that," he said.
