ISLAMABAD, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least four militants were killed when a suspected U.S. drone fired two missiles in Pakistan's lawless tribal region, local TV channels reported Sunday.
The report said that missiles hit a compound in Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan tribal agency late on Saturday night in northwest Pakistan.
It was the sixth missile attack by unmanned U.S. spy plane in year 2010 after the U.S. administration put Pakistan at the top of its fight against Al-Qaida and Islamist extremists.
Suspected U.S. drones have been targeting North Waziristan, a stronghold of Al-Qaida fighters and Haqqani network attacking the NATO forces in neighboring Afghanistan.
U.S. administration is mounting pressure on Pakistan to target militants who use its soil for offensive against NATO troops in Afghanistan.
But the drone attacks are fueling anti-American sentiments in Pakistan and Pakistani government seeks drone technology from the U.S. authorities.
In response to Pakistan's opposition to drone attacks inside its territory, U.S. Republican Senator John McCain said on Friday during a visit to Pakistan that the U.S. policy of drone attacks is effective and U.S. will continue its strategy, adding that "friends don't always agree on every issue."
