CHICAGO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The 2010 New Year World Peace Gala, "Carnival China Style," was held at Auditorium Theater in Chicago on Saturday, charming the audience with traditional and updated Chinese classics.
Seventy top artists and performers from the China Broadcasting Performing Arts Troupe, a leading art group in China, provided a vibrant blend of singing, dancing, opera, folk music and acrobatics, for thousands of enthusiastic spectators.
A live Chinese painting and calligraphy act were showcased during the performance, as well as a sizzling finale that brought the entire cast together in one last stunning act.
"Tonight's performance will serve as a bridge of understanding and friendship between the people of China and the U.S.," said Huang Ping, Chinese consul general in Chicago.
"By having this wonderful show in Chicago, China will enhance its relationship with Chicago and contribute to its cultural diversity and prosperity," he added.
The show was organized by the All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, which has been working on cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
The troupe, having travelled to Vancouver and Ottawa in Canada, will continue their performances in St. Paul, Denver and Seattle in the United States.
