RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Although brief, Flamengo's star striker Adriano made his first official appearance on the grass of the team's pre-season workouts on Saturday in the Sao Paulo city of Porto Feliz.
The player remains unable to participate in field activities due to the burn on his left heel. In late November of last year, Adriano was burnt while allegedly joy riding along with a friend on a motorcycle.
Adriano made a quick dash onto the field during Saturday practice. He spent less than one minute on the field, wearing only socks on his feet. He ran out onto the field approaching the flag marking the corner of the field in order to pick up a bag of ice.
His mere appearance caused a commotion as on-looking fans and teammates alike paused to see what the "Emperor" was up to. After picking up the bag of ice and saluting his teammates, Adriano returned to the weight room where he continues to receive treatment to heal his wound.
As a result of Adriano's remaining tenderness, he is expected to miss the team's opening match of the Rio de Janeiro state championship on January 17 when they face Duque de Caxias.
