LAS VEGAS, the United States, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off here on Thursday with some 2,700 exhibitors unveiling their latest technology innovations.
The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a non-public trade show held each January in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). At the show, many previews of products are introduced, or new products are announced.
The first CES was held in June 1967 in New York city. From 1978to 1994, CES was held twice each year: one in January in Las Vegas known as Winter Consumer Electronics Show and the other in June in Chicago, Illinois, known as Summer Consumer Electronics Show. In 1998, the show changed to a once a year format with Las Vegas as the location. Now, the show is considered one of the major technology-related trade shows around the world.
With more than four decades of success, the International CES reaches across global markets, connects the industry and enables consumer electronics innovations to grow and thrive.
CEA is a preeminent U.S. trade association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry. It represents more than 2,000 corporate members involved in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of consumer electronics products. All profits from CES are reinvested into industry services, including technical training and education, industry promotion, engineering standards development, market research and legislative advocacy.
