BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The 79-year-old American billionaire investor, Warren Buffett, had the worst performance in stock market in 2009 after he was appointed an economic advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama, according to news reports Thursday.

Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc., which he has led for more than 40 years, gained 2.7 percent on the New York Stock Exchange in 2009, less than the 23 percent return in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.

Berkshire's performance last year was its worst since tumbling 20 percent 10 years ago, compared with a 20 percent advance in the S&P Index. Overall, it beat the index in 15 of the last 22 years.

Despite his losses in the share market field, as one of the most influential economic advisors to Obama, Buffett helped the president with his recover policy for the U.S. economy.
