RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The bus full of Internacional' s team players came under attack while on their way to their team practice on Wednesday.

Leaving their hotel in the city of Bento Goncalvez in Rio Grande do Sul, the bus was attacked by a squad of people wearing Gremio jerseys.

Apart from the bus, there was a caravan of cars carrying coaches and auxiliary staff. According to Internacional, the group that attacked the caravan was armed with stones, bottles and otherprojectiles.

Luckily for the players and coaching staff, no one was injured.

Gremio is Internacional's most vicious rival. Not one of the angry and villainous attackers was able to hit the bus as they passed through and overpass on their way to practice. However, one of the vans carrying the coaching staff was struck.

According to Internacional's vice-president, Fernando Carvalho, the episode is sad and unacceptable.

He said that the club is there to work out and not cause any sort of trouble even before the 2010 season kicks off. Carvalho took advantage of the situation to plead that fans of Internacional do not stoop to the same low level of Gremio's in search of retaliation.
