BRASILIA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government presented on Tuesday a bill granting full exemption from federal taxes to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) for organizing the World Cup 2014, to be held in Brazil.

The measure announced after a meeting in the Brazilian Sports Ministry with representatives of the Ministry of Finance, FIFA and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is in response to a commitment made by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Siva with FIFA in2007 to organize the World Cup 2014.

According to the Minister of Sports, Orlando Silva, the bill will be sent to Congress in February, after the recess.

The exemption will last until Dec. 31, 2015 and will extend to companies providing services and products to be acquired by FIFA.

The special adviser for football affairs in the Sports Ministry Alcino Rocha said that it is up to FIFA to decide which companies and services are entitled to exemptions from federal taxes that the government grants for the organization of the World Cup 2014.

Companies may be Brazilian or foreigner, and shall provide services or sell products related to competition or the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, which will also be held in Brazil.

FIFA, as organizer of the event and contractor of products and services, will previously send to the Brazilian Revenue Service a list of products and companies that may benefit from federal tax exemption.
