ALMATY, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon said Monday his country supported Iran's plan to peacefully use nuclear energy after meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, local media reported.
Rakhmon said at a news briefing that the international community should solve the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue and diplomatic approach.
For his part, Ahmadinejad said Iran and Tajikistan maintained "solid brotherly ties", adding that the two leaders talked about international and regional affairs including the situation in Iran and Pakistan.
The two leaders also attended the signing ceremony of six inter-governmental agreements and memoranda on justice, energy, geological prospecting, infrastructure and water projects.
Iran is one of Tajikistan's biggest trade partners. Currently, the Sangtuda 2 hydroelectric power plant on the Vakhsh River, with an installed capacity of 220 megawatts, is being built by Iranian companies.
