BERLIN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebrselassie won the Trier Corrida event in Germany on Thursday as a warm-up for next month's Dubai Marathon.
The 36-year-old two-time 10,000 meters Olympic champion won the8 kilometers race in a time of 22 minutes 22 seconds, 19 seconds outside the race record set in 1996 by Kenyan Peter Githuka.
Gebrselassie beat home Kenyan duo Shadrack Lagat and Paul Kipkorir, who was in 22:22:47 and 22:23:18 respectively.
The Ethiopian hopes to improve in Dubai on Jan. 22 his marathon world best of 2 hours 3 minutes 59 seconds set in Berlin in September 2008.
