TEHRAN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Intelligence Ministry said in a statement issued Thursday that the country will not tolerate the anti-regime moves as they are provoked by enemies, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The Islamic Republic is fully supported by the people and the dreams of enemies in accomplishing velvet revolution and soft overthrow (in Iran) will never come true," the statement was quoted as saying.

The Intelligence Ministry warned in the statement the participants of "the enemies' plots." It said "unfortunately some...have chosen the way which follows the wicked objectives of the enemies."

The statement however did not elaborate who the enemies are.

The statement came a day after a massive pro-regime turnout in Tehran on Wednesday, which condemned what the participants called "Western plots" against their country.

Sporadic clashes erupted in Tehran on Sunday in coincidence with the Ashura Day, a ceremonial day celebrated by Shiites worldwide. Eight people were killed in the anti-government protests, and some 500 others were arrested.

On Tuesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Sunday's anti-government protests as a "play staged by Israel and the United States."
