Republic enjoys high level stability despite Western propaganda, the official IRNA news agency reported.

    Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, also the Head of Parliament (Majlis) Cultural Commission, said that "Wednesday's demonstration in support of the Islamic values and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei have proved that Iran enjoys a high level of stability despite West's propaganda against the country," the report said.

    Haddad-Adel made the remarks while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a local gathering in Tehran.

    A massive pro-regime turnout in Tehran condemned on Wednesday what the participants called "Western plots" against their country, IRNA said.

    Hundreds of Thousands of Iranians broke into streets across the country protesting at Sunday anti-regime protests and what they described as "plots against the territorial integrity, national interests and the Islamic Republic".

    Sporadic clashes erupted in Tehran on Sunday in coincidence with Ashura Day, a ceremonial day celebrated by Shiites worldwide. Eight protestors were killed in the incident according to a statement by Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

    Iran also confirmed on Wednesday that police arrested about 500 protestors in Tehran on Sunday.

Obama condemns Iran's crackdown on protesters

    LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday condemned Iran's crackdown on protesters, saying "history will be on the side of those who seek justice."

    The United States "strongly condemns" the oppression of Iranian citizens, Obama said in his native Hawaii where he is taking vacation with his family. Full story

Iran carrying out forensic examination on dead protestors: IRNA

    TEHRAN, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported on Monday that the dead bodies of five, out of eight, murdered people in Tehran's Sunday "riots" have been retained for further forensic examinations.

    The dead bodies of Seyed-Ali Habibi-Mousavi and four others who were killed in Tehran's Sunday "riots" have been retained for complete forensic and police examinations, IRNA said rejecting some media reports on Monday that Habibi-Mousavi's dead body was taken away by Iran's security forces.  Full story
