Bateer named MVP in first week of CBA

    BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Menk Bateer of Xinjiang Guanghui was named the Most Valuable Players of the Week in the opening week of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA).

    The 34-year-old center averaged 11.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists to help Xinjiang start the 2010 season with a perfect 3-0 record.

    Andre Emmett of Shandong Gold was named the MVP among foreign players as he averaged 35.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

    Shandong had a 2-1 record in the first-week play.

    Jilin Northeast Tigers' Yu Penglong won the first Rookie of the Week award by 16.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

    The Tigers went to 2-1 record after the first three matches when the 19-year-old guard exploded in his second year in the league.

    Players under 21 years old and with less than two-year spell in the league are eligible to contend for the Best Rookie Award.
