SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- South Korea plans to boost its cloud computing market by putting 610 billion won (about 522 million U.S. dollars) into the market by 2014, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said Wednesday.
Cloud computing is an emerging technology which does not require users to have physical infrastructure to save, store and retrieve data by renting usage from third-party host servers, which the KCC said will lead the "second digital revolution" and create a ripple effect on the overall economy.
The country's Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy co-authorized the blueprint.
Under the plan, the government plans to quadruple the size of the domestic cloud computing market to 2.5 trillion won (2 billion U.S. dollars) and increase its world market share to 10 percent within four years, the commission said.
