MOSCOW, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Kremlin on Saturday held a New Year party for children coming from all over the country.

Russia's first lady Svetlana Medvedeva extended her New Year greetings to children who had arrived from various parts of the country.

"I am very glad to see you in the Kremlin and want with all my heart to congratulate you on the coming year of 2010 and Christmas and want to convey Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's congratulations to you," said Medvedeva at the beginning of the party.

The country's main Christmas tree in the Kremlin has been welcoming friends during school holidays for many years, she said.

She also wished children good health and success in their school careers.

Russia's New Year and Orthodox Christmas holidays last from Jan. 1 to Jan. 11.
