LUSAKA, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- World soccer governing body FIFA has appointed a Zambia national soccer team doctor as a it's first doping control officer in the southern African country, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Saturday.
Joseph Kabungo said in Lusaka on Friday that his appointment was with immediate effect and will run up to December 2010.
He becomes the first Zambian to be on the FIFA doping control network and is expected to carry out doping controls at FIFA-organized matches and competitions, Daily Mail said.
"I am extremely delighted at this appointment especially that Zambia as a country can be given an opportunity to get involved in doping-control at the highest level of sport," Kabungo was quoted as saying by the paper.
He hoped that his appointment would be an inspiration to different sports disciplines to get together and wipe out the use of drugs.
Kabungo's appointment follows his involvement in doping controls, which FIFA has been monitoring through the years, Daily Mail said.
