NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Power problems of
Amtrak, a government-owned corporation that provides intercity passenger train
service in the United States, have halted trains and stranded commuters trying
to get into or out of New York's Penn Station Wednesday morning.
Amtrak service is suspended due to a low-voltage
problem that happened around 8:45 a.m. local time.
Dan Stessel, spokesman for the New Jersey Transit
Corporation, a statewide public transportation system that operates bus, light
rail, and commuter rail services throughout the state was quoted by local media
as saying that the low voltage problem has halted Northeast Corridor, North
Jersey Coast Line and Midtown Direct trains.
Some trains are stranded just outside Penn Station, the major intercity rail station and a major commuter rail hub in New York City, and others are stuck between Newark and New York City.
