BEIJING, Dec. 22 -- Street Angel, a Chinese black-and-white film, has been revamped into a musical, and made its premiere at the China Film Museum during the weekend. The makeover gives the classic film a hilarious and insightful touch, to suit a new generation.

The musical tells the story of five film lovers, as they attempt to reproduce the 1937 movie "Street Angels". The group joins a competition, and experience ups and downs before accomplishing the project and winning a top prize. The musical includes the prevalent topics of this year, through segments of singing and dancing.

Zha Wenbai, director, said, "We should try to retrieve the sparkles of old films. The personal touches, and the emotions of ordinary people make very good subjects for films. "

Those who have watched the performance felt a sense of de javu to the 1930s classic and expressed their wish to see more films relevant to their lives.
