KATHMANDU, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Nepali government Friday introduced Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test using the sample of human remains in the country.

It is expected that the move would be a boon to find out the whereabouts of disappeared citizens, as the status of around 1200 disappeared citizens during the decade-long conflict is still unknown.

Minister for Law and Justice Prem Bahadur Singh inaugurated the new technology in Lalitpur-based National Forensic Science Laboratory in the capital Kathmandu Valley, entrusted with looking into the cases of the DNA testing.

There was a provision for DNA testing using fresh blood samples earlier.

Speaking at the program Singh praised the new facility in the country. "It is a matter of glory that we have been able to perform the test in the country where the culture of impunity has grown at an alarming rate," he said.
