DHAKA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ferdousy Priobhashini, a housewife living in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, has become a wellknown artist by making sculptures with waste wood.

While being interviewed by Xinhua on Friday, Priobhashini said she started the hobby of making wooden sculptures with waste wood 30 years ago.

"I travelled with my husband to some remote places in Bangladesh. I saw many waste wood which gave me inspiration of art. So I picked some wood and started the work of sculpture making," she said.

During the last 30 years, Priobhashini has been concentrating on making sculptures which has become a important part of her life.

Priobhashini said, "My life is very simple. I don't like to spend money on expensive clothes, but I like to spend money on buying waste wood."

"If someone takes my clothes or other properties away, I don't care so much. But if they take my waste wood, I do care," she added.

Priobhashini spends 9 hours per day on sculpture making. She tries her best to keep the sculpture to its original form and color.

Priobhashini majored in political science when she was in university. She was self-taught to become an artist.

Priobhashini said, "I like nature. I want to bring nature back home."

Almost all the works have marks of nature, like the photo frames which are made of bamboo, stools which are made of waste wood, flower pots which are also made of waste wood.

Priobhashini has a warehouse in her house which stores many waste wood materials. "I have a lot of work to do with so many materials," she said.

Priobhashini has held 10 solo exhibitions over the last 30 years and sold out 400 works of sculptures. She is expecting another solo exhibition which she wants to bring more better works to the audience.
