BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government Wednesday pledged to tighten supervision on mobile WAP sites in a bid to curb rampant pornography.

The government will draft a regulation specially on WAP sites, which provide Internet service for mobile phones, before March next year, said a central government office in charge of fighting illegal publications and pornography in a statement here.

The government will also ban WAP sites from setting up the access authorization system so that they will not escape regulation, the statement said.

Last week, China launched a new round of harsh crackdown on spreading pornographic content through Internet and mobile WAP sites. The campaign will last till May next year.

During the campaign, the government will tighten the registration of WAP sites and check up their registration information, the statement said.

The government aimed to crack the interest chain behind pornographic WAP sites, which might implicate telecom firms, access providers, advertisement agencies and third-party payment providers, it said.

The government will clarify the duties which websites, telecom firms, access providers and content providers should bear to curb pornography, it said.

"If they do not take up proper actions, they will be held for the breach of duty. In those serious cases, the corporate representatives will be forced to apologize to the public and promise to correct their wrongdoings in public," the statement said.
