BEIJING, Dec. 15 -- Ningbo in eastern Zhejiang Province Monday unveiled its naturally inspired brick and tile pavilion with a strong Jiangnan folk architectural flavor.
The main structure of the two-floor building for 2010 World Expo's Urban Best Practices Area has been finished, which will replicate Tengtou Village, one of the Global Ecological 500 and World Top 10 Harmonious Villages.
The 1,500-square-meter pavilion was built with old fragmented bricks and tiles, a common architectural tradition in Zhejiang's countryside. It features a countryside lifestyle and natural philosophy in tranquility and harmony.
Traditional Jiangnan folk house elements are embodied in the door, windows, walls and roof of the structure, to fully showcase the unique cultural features of a modern Jiangnan water town.
Inside the pavilion, visitors will listen to the sounds of the 24 solar terms and learn about the plantation of capsicum, strawberry and rice, whose planting history dates back 7,000 years.
There will also be a six-minute film clip showcasing the flavor of Ningbo's countryside and photos of 300 Ningbo families.
Zhou Hanmin, deputy director of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Executive Committee, and Chen Xin, deputy Party secretary of Ningbo attended the ceremony.
