    BEIJING, Dec. 15 -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has wrapped up his visit to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in Central Asia. Earlier on Monday, he attended an inauguration ceremony for a gas pipeline near the Turkmen-Uzbek border.

    The leaders of Kazakh-stan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan joined Hu Jintao to commission the more than 1,800 kilometer fuel supply route that snakes across Central Asia. The project connects with existing pipelines that carry natural gas produced in Turkmenistan to major Chinese cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.

    President Hu Jintao, says China is ready to maintain close communication and step up coordination with the three countries to build the second line of the venture while ensuring safety and efficiency in its operation.
