Internet access soars in Brazil

    BRASILIA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Access to the Internet in Brazil had grown 75.3 percent from 2005 to 2008, involving about 56 million people aged 10 or older, statistics show.

    This means that one in three Brazilians accessed the web at least once in their lifetime in 2008, compared to one in five in 2005, said the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics on Friday.

    The use of the Internet was also higher among youngsters in 2008 with the group aged from 15 to 17 accounting for 62.9 percent.

    Most people (83.2 percent) used the Internet to communicate, figures show.
