HONG KONG, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- China claimed women's badminton team title at the 5th East Asian Games here on Thursday by defeating Chinese Taipei 3-1.
Xia Jingyun opened the winning start for China after she defeated Xu Yaqing in the first women's singles. Xia took the upper hand throughout the game and finished the match with 21-8, 21-16.
The following women's doubles proved to be a tough one. Jian Yujin and Cheng Wenxin pulled one point back for Chinese Taipei by beating Ma Jin and Wang Xiaoli 19-21, 21-18 and 21-16.
"We were under pressure today," said Ma and Wang after the match. Wang said that she was too anxious to earn points, which led to some unforced errors.
In the following singles match, Fu Shanshan overcame Chinese Taipei player Bai Xiaoma 22-20, 21-9, putting China 2-1 ahead.
Chengshu and Zhao Yunlei didn't give their opponents any chances, beating Wang Peirong and Xie Peiqin 21-14, 21-15 to wrap up the 3-1 victory for China.
Hong Kong of China and South Korea shared the bronze medal of women's badminton team event.
