Chinese premier, British PM discuss climate change

    BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Thursday held an in-depth and candid discussion of their views on issues concerning climate change.

    The two leaders spoke by telephone as the U.N. Climate Change Conference, which opened Monday and will run through Dec. 18, continued in Copenhagen.

    The conference gathered representatives from 192 countries and aims to map out a plan to combat climate change from 2012 to 2020.

    Wen, at the invitation of Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, was to attend the talks.

China, India, Brazil agree to enhance cooperation against climate change ¡¡¡¡

    BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday held separate telephone conversations concerning climate change with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

    The three leaders all expressed willingness to enhance coordination and cooperation to deal with climate change, as the U.N. Climate Change Conference, which opened Monday and will run through Dec. 18, continued in Copenhagen. Full story

Chinese Premier's attendance adds momentum to Copenhagen talks: FM     

    BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's attendance at the Copenhagen conference will inject a new momentum into international climate change talks, Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Guangya said Thursday.

    "Wen's trip to Copenhagen will inject a new momentum into the climate change talks and exert positive and important impacts for future international cooperation," Wang told a press conference on Thursday. Full story

     NANJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday says the upcoming Copenhagen Conference represents another important moment in international action on climate change.

    "The willingness and commitments to be expressed by countries at Copenhagen will promote the historic advancement of green economy and sustainable development," Wen said when delivering a speech at the closing ceremony of the fifth China-EU Business Summit. Full story

    BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao said during an inspection tour to East China over the weekend that the country would rely on science and technology advancements to meet its carbon emissions reduction targets.

    When visiting the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wen encouraged researchers to develop key technologies for electric vehicles and vehicles with high energy efficiency and low emissions. Full story 

China's emissions cut promise serious, says Premier

    BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's promise on its carbon dioxide emissions cut target was "a serious and solemn one," said Premier Wen Jiabao here Friday.

    Wen made the remarks in a meeting with representatives from India, South Africa, Brazil and the G77 group of developing nations, who were here for consultations with China on climate change issues. Full story

China criticizes rich nations' inaction on global warming

    COPENHAGEN, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday criticized the lack of action by developed nations in fulfilling their commitments on carbon emissions reduction and financial support to developing nations in coping with climate change.

    "You will find a huge gap if you make a comparison between their pledges and the actions they have so far taken," Yu Qingtai, China's special representative in the UN climate talks, said at a press conference during the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.  Full story
